UL Bohemian Women win the 2016 Munster Senior Cup.
The Munster Senior Cup final for 2016 was played in Garryowen FC grounds between UL Bohemian RFC and Highfield RFC on Sunday 28th February.
The game was played at a fast pace and it was clear that both teams were well prepared and determined to bring home the bacon. Highfield had most of the play in the early part of the game and opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a well taken try. However, the Robins bounced back 10 minutes later when Edel Murphy crossed the try line for a well deserved score. Aine Staunton added the two points. The home side now had their tails up and five minutes later Deirbhile Nic a Bhaird made a super individual run to get the second try. Aine was again successful with the conversion. Just before the break Aine Staunton added a further 3 points with a penalty. UL Bohs leading 17 points to 5.
Highfield kicked off for the second half and stayed in the Bohs half for 5 or so minutes and eventually they powered their way over for their second try. Not to be outdone the Robins got back in the groove and a short time later Aine Staunton got in for try number 3. This saw the score at 22 – 10 in favour of UL Bohs approaching the final 20 minutes. With two teams of such quality the game was far from being won by either side and Highfield kept up the pressure and got their reward with a converted try on 72 minutes. The margin was now down to 5 points. The next team to score could win this game. UL Bohs were awarded a penalty some distance from the Highfield posts and Aine Staunton had another great kick to stretch the margin to 8 points. Five minutes to go. Still looking good for the Robins. Not yet done and dusted though. Into the last minute and Bohs kept up the pace and Liz Burke skated in for the final try of the game. The wonderful sound of the long blast of the whistle and a well deserved victory for the home side. Final Score, UL Bohs 30 Highfield 17.
